Specialised Scaffolding for Jump Squad
Stronghold Hire were engaged by a company called Jump Squad HQ with an unusual scaffolding project request. Jump Squad HQ are a small company that provide Parkour exhibitions. For those who are not familiar with Parkour, this is a training discipline using movement that developed from military obstacle training which originated in the late 1980’s in France.
Scaffolding For Exhibition Use
The exhibition was for Caroma who were releasing a new range of bathroom furnishings. The object of their exhibition was to show the smooth operation of this new range through the guys from Jump Squad.
Our job was to erect an obstacle course from scaffold that would need to be freestanding but still withstand the forces of 5 men swinging and jumping through it. We were given a set of drawings and asked if we could make it work. We ran the drawings passed our engineer who approved them, so we decided to take the job on.
Scaffolding Preparation and Testing
The project required some preparation at our yard, we first built a very basic similar scaffold and invited George from Jump Squad to come over and test it out to ensure it met his needs. After approval from George we then set to work on the timber platforms, cutting them to size and painting them in non-slip paint.
On the day of the project we had to load in the material at 6am and then erect the job in less than 6 hours as this is when rehearsals would start. The function room was very busy with flower arrangements, table setting, DJ and lighting set ups, staging etc so we had to work in closely with everyone else involved.
Tight Deadlines But A Complete (Repeat) Success
The show was a complete success and once it was finished we then had to dismantle and remove all scaffolding from site within 2 hours. The deadlines were incredibly tight, and it was a very long day, but our client was delighted. So much so, that they engaged our services again recently at the same venue for a camera promotion by SONY. This project again ran smoothly, and we are sure there will be more ventures with Jump Squad in the future.
