For this project, the roofing contractor required:

• Temporary edge protection around the roof perimeter
• Safe stair access from ground level to the roof
• A demolition (rubbish) chute for removing the old roofing membrane quickly and safely

Commercial Edge Protection System

For this installation, we used our Commercial Edge Protection Bracket system.

Unlike some temporary edge protection systems that can obstruct the slab edge, our commercial bracket bolts directly to the concrete slab, leaving the entire edge clear for the roofing contractor to work.

This provides several important benefits:

• Maximum working space at the roof edge
• No posts or braces creating trip hazards
• Easier installation of roofing materials
• Improved productivity for trades
• The majority of work can be completed safely behind the handrails

When contractors have unrestricted access to the edge, the job becomes faster, safer and considerably more efficient.

Safe Roof Access

Access is often overlooked during planning, but it’s one of the most important parts of any roofing project. Rather than relying on ladders throughout the build, we supplied a temporary stair tower, allowing workers to safely move themselves, tools and smaller materials between ground level and the roof.

Not only is this safer, but it also improves efficiency throughout the duration of the project.

Rubbish Chute Keeps the Site Clean

Removing old roofing material by hand can be slow, messy and labour-intensive. To make life easier, we also installed one of our demolition rubbish chutes. The chute allowed the old roof membrane to be safely directed into a skip below, helping keep the site tidy while reducing manual handling and preventing debris from being thrown from height.

It’s a simple addition that can save a significant amount of time over the course of a project.

A Funny Coincidence…

This project also produced one of those strange moments that occasionally happens in construction. Completely by coincidence, Stronghold Hire had three separate roofing projects operating in the same street at exactly the same time – all for different clients!

Standing on the roof, we honestly didn’t know whether we were more impressed by the incredible ocean views across Maroubra Beach or by spotting our bright yellow edge protection brackets sitting proudly on rooftops as far as the eye could see.

It certainly made for a great reminder of just how busy Sydney’s roofing industry has been, and maybe a reminder of how many clients are now entrusting us with our services.
